Review: Black Tree Designs Norman Knights

During the last round of Black Tree Design 50% sales, I picked up three bags of Norman Knights.  One command pack and two packs of armored knights with swords.  The command pack included a nobel with a sword, a musician and a standard bearer.

The models themselves come in three parts.  A knight, a horse, and a shield.  Very little flash and assembly went quickly.  I used medium battlefront bases to mount them.  One thing to be careful with is the horses breaking from their base at their feet.  I has a few hoofs tear at the horses ankles and they had to be repaired with glue.

The models look great and have a nice amount of detail.  With the sale prices from BTD, I can see picking up more troops from the BTD Dark Age range in the future.  Figures required very little clean up and were mostly flash free.

The nobel has his sword drawn, leading the charge, but for the most part lacks any dynamic bells and whistles.  Nothing that noticably sets him apart from other knights armed with swords.

The nights come in three poses, but come with a variety of horses.  I prefered the sword knights over the spear armed knights.  The spears are made of metal and run the risk of bending and breakings so I opted for swords.  The musician has a horn which he carries in his sword hand.

The standard bearer had a metal banner staff, but it was bent and almost broken when I got it, so I replaced it with a straightened paperclip. I found a banner online and printed it off.

I give these figure 8 out of 10 chainmail suits.
