Gripping Beast Plastic Arab Spearmen and Archers

Gripping Beast have delved into plastics again as part of their support for the Saga wargame. The new "Crescent and the Cross" expansion moves the game into the period of the Crusades. To help gamers with a new period this new box set of plastic 28mm infantry should help a lot! You can find them at Gripping Beast here.

This set follows very much in the same mould (excuse the pun) as the previous Dark Age Warriors plastic box set.

So what do you get for your money?

There are 40 x 28mm scale models found on eight sprues of five models each. There are a selection of heads and weapons and perhaps very usefully, there are 16 bows for those wanting to have missiles in their force.

The models are well cast and will need very little cleanup. the heads look especially unique and well modelled, probably the best plastic offering from GB so far in my opinion.

As usual the box also comes with enough plastic Renedra green bases for all models to be mounted (on 20mm squares or larger blocks). If you want round bases you will have to provide your own.

Each sprue gives enough parts for seven heads, a spear for each man, five shields, one sword and one horn. Plus there are two bows and two of the spear arms are crooked for throwing (the spear can become a javelin about to be launched if you want). Very similar to the Dark Age Warriors. The shield surfaces are flat allowing for the use of decals if you want to use that option. You can find a range here... link.

There you have it, a quick look at a great addition to the Gripping Beast plastics range and a useful product for the Saga wargamer.

You can see the "block effect" of spearmen built from this kit below...
