On your Cart! 4Ground Carts for Saga

One of the scenarios in the Saga basic rulebook  is called "The Escort". For this you need three items of "baggage" that need to be guarded by one of the players. You could use some peasants, animals or boxes and bags based up, but one possible way of representing these items is to use carts. I bought three varieties of cart from www.4ground.com and wanted to show how they look when assembled. The rules of the scenario allow for each baggage piece to have a base size from 4x4 cm up to 5x10 cm.

First of all these models are pretty cheap. They come on a sheet of laser cut mdf with scored lining to represent planks. Assembly is pretty quick and easy with a little PVA glue and a craft knife. Only the covered baggage cart with a series of hoops proved difficult. I cut off the hoops as it is not a Dark Age look (being more mid-west America to me!) But I liked the basic cart, so I decided to go with it rather than have three ox-carts! The shafts or poles that connect the cart to the beast of burden (including the ox yoke) seem a little flimsy, but once harnessed to beasts of burden and based, should prove to be a lot harder to damage. I wouldn't recommend just leaving them as they are. They are light and breakable.

The look without ant treatment is good to me. A mix of light and dark woods, just leave them or varnish them without any further work.

As the above carts are seen on the sellers website:

To find out more about the humble cart just take a look at wiki's page on carts. There's more to their variety and history than you think.

I got hold of some laser cut MDF and Renedra plastics bases in the 5x10cm size and tried them out. As a result, I will be going with the Renedra bases.I will put up an another article after I sort out the animals and basing and show the finished items.
